Come to class EVERY DAY with the purpose of: actively, collaboratively, completely, effectively, energetically, intentionally and thoughtfully participating in rehearsals. Ensemble and individual improvement is achieved through careful attention to vocal technique and precise refinement of repertoire aesthetics.
Practice leads to confidence and confidence leads to success!
Excuses which will NEVER be accepted under ANY circumstances:

I didn't know...
I forgot...
I don't have transportation.
Grades
Weekly grades are assigned on a point basis of 1 - 5.
Choir is a performance based class.
Students must attend and participate in each and every class in order for individual and group progress to occur.
*Absences, excused or unexcused, must be made up before the end of the nine week grading period in which they occur.
*Four unexcused tardies will constitute an unexcused absence.
5= 100% attendance, with no tardies and is ready to begin class when the bell "boops", absolute, energetic engagement in all classes and rehearsals, effective individual contribution to the overall balance and blend of the ensemble through melodic and rhythmic accuracy with sensitivity and proper execution of dynamics. 100% melodic and rhythmic accuracy on assigned music, proper execution of dynamics, employment of healthy vocal technique. Students will exemplify confidence and composure.
4= 100% attendance, but has an unexcused tardy and/or 2 incidents of inappropriate technology usage,, 100% melodic and rhythmic accuracy on assigned music, proper execution of dynamics, employment of healthy vocal techniques
3= 80 - 100% attendance, but has 2 or more unexcused tardies and/or 3 incidents of inappropriate technology usage,, 100% melodic and rhythmic accuracy on assigned music, proper execution of dynamics,
2= 60 - 80% attendance and/or 4 incidents of inappropriate technology usage,, intermittent participation in classes and rehearsals, 100% melodic and rhythmic accuracy on assigned music, proper execution of dynamics
1 = 0 - 60% attendance and/or 5 incidents of inappropriate technology usage, intermittent participation in classes and rehearsals, 100% melodic and rhythmic accuracy on assigned music
Performance Grades
PERFORMANCES ARE MANDATORY!
YOU WILL BE THERE!!
YOU WILL BE AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL MAGNIFICENT AND MUSICAL!!!!
100 points per performance which count as a test grade = 50 points performance + 50 points returning uniforms
Mid-Term and Final Exam Grades
The Winter Concert will be used as the Mid-Term Exam grade
The Spring Concert & Graduation will be used at the Final Exam grade.
These performances will be averaged in at 20% of the overall semester grade.
Rehearsals
After school or rehearsals outside regular school hours are sometimes necessary.
They are scheduled well in advance.
Attendance is mandatory. (exceptions are made at the discretion of the director for students involved with CHS athletics if arrangements are made at least 3 days in
advance of the scheduled rehearsal)
Student participation in these rehearsals is graded.
Charlottesville City Schools transportation will be provided from rehearsals held during the week.
Make up work
Students with excused absences will be allowed to make up work in order to improve their grade. The responsibility falls upon the student to make arrangements with the director for the make up work. Once final grades for a given marking period have been submitted, no make up work will be allowed.
Technology Usage Policy
There is to be no technology used in class unless directed to do so by the teacher.
ALL CELL PHONES ARE TO BE ON SILENT OR OFF AND IN A BACKPACK OR PURSE.
CELL PHONE USAGE IS ABSOLUTELY, COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY PROHIBITED IN CLASS AT ALL TIMES.
Uniforms
Students will be fitted for a choir uniform provided by the school.
Students will need to provide for themselves the following:
Girls:
Black closed toe dress shoes with a flat medium height heel not to exceed 2 inches. Sandals or athletic shoes are not acceptable for performances.
a bra that has either clear or flesh tone straps or is strapless
Boys:
Black lace up or slip on dress shoes. Athletic shoes are not acceptable for performances.
A plain white undershirt free of text and artwork.
Black dress socks
Replacement costs for lost or damaged uniforms:
